Riders from all over the community, including members of Canadian Army Veterans (CAV), are gearing up their motorcycles for the 10th annual Ride to Remember event to raise funds for the Tony Stacey Centre for Veterans Care.
The fundraiser on Saturday, July 16, will be a poker run, where bikers leave the Royal Canadian Legion Aurora at 10 a.m. and arrive at Tony Stacey at 2 p.m. They are encouraged to collect cards to build the best poker hand from different Royal Canadian Legion locations along the way.
Publicist Diana LeBlanc said the centre is the only long-term care centre in the GTA that caters to Afghanistan, Korea, First World War and Second World War veterans, peacekeepers and their spouses.
“We want to keep their relationship together and we invite the spouse to stay,” she said. “Currently, we need money to repair our roof.”
Organizers hope to raise $10,000 this year.
